1. Gyro compass CMZ-700
Gyro compass maintenance is an essential task that ensures the compass operates smoothly and remains stable over a long period of time. Regular maintenance not only prolongs the lifespan of the equipment but also helps reduce operating costs. If we neglect periodic maintenance, the compass sphere may deteriorate quickly, leading to costly replacements.
For Yokogawa compasses such as the CMZ-700 and CMZ-900, the maintenance process is relatively simple. Inside the container that houses the gyro sphere, there is a special conductive liquid. During maintenance, only this specific liquid is allowed to be used for Yokogawa compasses—no other type of fluid can substitute it. After completing the maintenance, it is necessary to wait about four hours for the compass to stabilize and accurately indicate direction.

2. Gyro compass MK2
Sperry compasses are also widely used on various types of vessels. Among them, the two most common models are the MK-1 and MK-2. The maintenance procedure for Sperry compasses is quite similar to that of Yokogawa models. However, Sperry compasses also require their own specific type of liquid that must be used exclusively for this brand. After completing the maintenance process, it is necessary to wait about four hours for the compass to stabilize and operate accurately.

3. Gyro compass STD22
The Anschutz compass differs slightly from the other two types mentioned above. During maintenance, in addition to the special liquid, a cooling water system is also involved. In general, the maintenance process for this compass is quite similar to the others—it includes replacing the liquid, cleaning, and reassembling the unit. When starting up, the two most important parameters to monitor for any compass are the current and the starting voltage. For the Anschutz compass, it only requires about three hours of observation after maintenance to ensure stable operation.

4. Gyro compass GC-80
This type of compass is generally easier to maintain compared to the others mentioned above. However, while the maintenance process is simpler, other aspects of the system can be considerably more complex.
Basically, when performing maintenance on this type of compass. The main focus is on cleaning – especially the contact points of the compass. Similar to other compass models, it is still necessary to monitor the current and starting voltage after maintenance. This is the only way to ensure that the compass is operating correctly and functioning as expected.
